Get your child the education they deserve.

Your Rights (1).png

We believe in empowering families and individuals with special needs.

Capable Kids is committed to ensuring that every child, regardless of their unique abilities, receives the appropriate education and support they deserve. Whether you are navigating the complexities of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), 504 Plans, or other educational accommodations, we are here to guide you every step of the way. Our advocacy services encompass a range of support, including personalized consultations, procedural guidance, and collaboration with educators to tailor educational plans that meet the specific needs of each student.

Neurodiversity Affirming Advocacy

At Capable Kids, we prioritize the voices and perspectives of neurodivergent individuals, advocate for inclusive practices, individualized supports, and environments that honor each person's way of thinking, learning, and interacting.

Unlike traditional approaches that may focus on "fixing" or changing neurodivergent individuals to fit normative standards, neurodiversity-affirming advocates celebrate neurological differences as natural variations of the human experience. This approach fosters self-acceptance, empowerment, and genuine respect for neurodiversity, ensuring that all students receive the tailored support they need to thrive.

Navigating special education can be particularly challenging when you're impacted by domestic violence or divorce. You are not alone - we are here to support you every step of the way. We are familiar with family court systems, allowing us to provide immediate and effective assistance without needing to be brought up to speed. We offer personalized guidance and advocacy to ensure that your child's educational needs remain a priority during these tough times.  Understanding the emotional and logistical complexities you face, we collaborate with you to develop strategies that address both educational and personal challenges, ensuring your child's right to a quality education is upheld. We are here to help you navigate this journey with care and compassion.

What does an Advocate do?

Advocates are trained in your procedural rights - we are there to ensure that the district follows the process mandated for your child.  An advocate can help you through the special education process in many ways:

1.png

Assist in understanding parental and child rights under IDEA and state law

4.png

Suggest appropriate services, programs, accommodations, and/or modifications to meet the individual needs of the student

2.png

Interpret evaluation reports and analyze progress monitoring data

5.png

Prepare parents for and attend IEP/504 meetings.  Meetings can feel intimidating to parents; having an advocate there to support you can make the process less stressful.

3.png

Evaluate current and proposed Individual Education Program (IEP) goals and objectives

Evaluate Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs)

What does the process look like?

1

2

If you decide to move forward, you will return the signed contract as well as a $300 deposit (to be used toward services rendered).

3

Recommendations

After reviewing your child's IEP records, I will provide you with recommendations for next steps and support you through the process.

What does it cost?

Advocacy Services are $120 an hour.

This includes reviewing educational records, research, writing and reviewing correspondance, attending meetings, and any additional services needed.

Initial 30-minute consultation phone calls are free.

Before you decide to move forward, it's always good to meet and see if we are a good fit for your needs and expectations.

Email me to set up your free consultation at tara@capablekidsadvocacy.com

On-Demand Coaching Calls are $75 per hour.

If you'd like to schedule coaching calls to get help with any aspect of your child's education or receive coaching support, we offer this option for parents who are not yet ready to commit to full service advocacy.  This option does not include records reviews, written correspondence or attendance at IEP meetings.

Webinars, Handbooks + More

We recognize that not everyone can afford to pay for the services of an advocate. While our fees are significantly cheaper than attorney fees, we understand that they are cost prohibitive for some.   Visit our resources tab for free and low cost resources and check back often for webinars designed to help parents advocate effectively!
